How we estimate athletes’ wealth

We only list an athlete when Forbes (or another named, reputable outlet such as Bloomberg, Sportico, the Sunday Times Rich List or the Financial Review Rich List) has published a net worth estimate for them, such as Forbes’ billionaire lists, its richest self-made women list, or a Forbes article that states a figure. We show that figure exactly as published, in the currency it was published in and with its date, and never adjust it, average it with other sites or fill gaps with guesses.

Some estimates are several years old, so each card shows when it was published. Where Forbes also tracks yearly pay in its highest-paid athlete rankings, the profile adds a year-by-year earnings chart as background. Earnings are income before taxes and fees, not wealth.
