Jonas Valančiūnas is one of the most successful Lithuanian players of the NBA era. The Toronto Raptors drafted him fifth overall in 2011, and over more than a decade in the league he was a starting centre for Toronto, Memphis and New Orleans before spells with Washington, Sacramento and Denver. He has played for Lithuania since he was 19, winning EuroBasket silver in 2013 and 2015, and he now plays for Žalgiris in the EuroLeague.
The TOP 500 magazine's December 2025 ranking of the richest Lithuanians puts him 55th with €133 million, up 6 percent in a year and the most of any Lithuanian athlete. That is about $149 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Valančiūnas earned most of his fortune from a long run of NBA contracts as a starting centre, from his rookie deal in Toronto through big contracts with the Raptors and Grizzlies, and later deals with New Orleans, Washington and Denver.
The TOP 500 figure is the magazine's estimate of his wealth, not his earnings, and it does not give a breakdown.
Career at a glance
Valančiūnas came through the youth system of Lietuvos Rytas in Vilnius and spent a year in Europe after the draft before joining Toronto in 2012. He was known as a strong rebounder and inside scorer.
He has represented Lithuania since the age of 19 and was named to the All-Tournament team at EuroBasket 2015. He also appeared in the documentary The Other Dream Team.
