Dainius Zubrus is the most successful Lithuanian in NHL history and the first to play 1,000 games in the league. The Philadelphia Flyers drafted him 15th overall in 1996, and he reached the Stanley Cup Final in his rookie season. Over 20 seasons he played for Philadelphia, Montreal, Washington, Buffalo, New Jersey and San Jose, and reached the final twice more, with the Devils in 2012 and the Sharks in 2016. He retired after that run.

Since 2018 he has led Hockey Lietuva, Lithuania's ice hockey federation. The TOP 500 magazine's December 2025 ranking of the richest Lithuanians puts him 297th with about €28 million, about $31 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.

How he made his money

Zubrus earned his fortune over two decades of NHL contracts, most of all in nine seasons with the New Jersey Devils, where he was a dependable two-way forward. His best scoring season came earlier, in 2005-06 with Washington, when he had a career-high 57 points playing alongside rookie Alexander Ovechkin.

The TOP 500 figure is the magazine's estimate of his wealth, with no breakdown.

Career at a glance

Zubrus trained in Kharkiv in Ukraine as a youngster and later played junior hockey in North America before the Flyers drafted him.

He played for Russia at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey but chose Lithuania after that, playing for it at the 2005 World Championships. He holds both Lithuanian and US citizenship.
