How to read this: the headline is the net worth Yogeshwar Dutt declared in his 2020 by-election affidavit: total declared assets minus total declared liabilities, as transcribed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (MyNeta) and reported by The Tribune. Affidavit values are what the candidate states, often below market value, so this is an official declaration, not a market estimate. We show it as declared and have not adjusted it. Keep in mind it is 6 years old. The figure was published in INR; the US dollar amount next to it is our simple conversion at the European Central Bank reference rate of October 23, 2026, not a separate estimate.

Yogeshwar Dutt is an Indian freestyle wrestler who won a bronze medal at 60 kg at the London 2012 Olympics. He also won gold at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, and gold at both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games in 2014, and he received the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours, in 2013.

He joined the BJP in 2019 and twice contested the Baroda seat in his home district of Sonipat, in the 2019 Haryana election and in a by-election in November 2020, losing both times to the Congress. His affidavit for the 2020 by-election declared assets of ₹7.06 crore and liabilities of about ₹5.1 lakh.

How he made his money

Indian wrestlers earn far less than cricketers. Yogeshwar's wealth comes mainly from prize money and the cash awards that Indian states and the central government pay medal winners, along with sponsorships that followed his Olympic medal.

The Tribune, reporting on the affidavits in the Baroda by-poll, put his assets at ₹7.06 crore, compared with ₹1.90 crore for the Congress candidate Indu Raj and ₹30.82 lakh for the INLD's Joginder Malik, though two other candidates declared more.

About this figure

Every candidate for an Indian election has to file a sworn affidavit (Form 26) listing everything he and his household own and owe. In his 2020 by-election affidavit, Yogeshwar Dutt declared total assets of ₹7,06,18,876 and liabilities of ₹5,07,899. We subtract one from the other to get the declared net worth of about ₹7 crore, about $0.7 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate. The affidavit figures are transcribed by the Association for Democratic Reforms on MyNeta and were reported by national newspapers at the time.

Keep in mind what this number is. Assets in an affidavit are listed at the values the candidate states, and property is often entered well below what it would sell for today. It is an official declaration, not a journalist's estimate of his wealth, and it only covers what was owned on the day it was filed.
