Marek Hamšík is the greatest Slovak footballer of his generation. He spent 12 years at Napoli, where he became captain, played a club-record 521 games and for a time was the club's all-time top scorer. He finished his career in China with Dalian and in Turkey with Trabzonspor, winning the Süper Lig in 2022. With 138 caps and 26 goals he is Slovakia's most-capped player and top scorer, and he captained the country at its first World Cup in 2010.
Forbes Slovensko's 2026 list of the richest Slovaks puts his fortune at about €90 million, the same as in 2025, when he was the only footballer on the list. That is about $101 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate. He now works as an assistant coach of the Slovakia national team.
How he made his money
Hamšík's fortune is built on his playing career. Forbes Slovensko estimates he earned about €40 million net in his years at Napoli and roughly €25 million more after a lucrative move to Dalian in China shortly before the pandemic.
He started doing business with his father while still playing. They have invested in property around his home town of Banská Bystrica, including the Nové Slnečné stráne housing project, a restored Renaissance manor at Vlkanová and an industrial park in Radvaň. He also has a wine wholesaler, Hamsik corporation, and the company behind the Bounce Park entertainment centre.
Career at a glance
Hamšík started at Slovan Bratislava and moved to Italy as a teenager with Brescia. Napoli signed him in 2007 after their promotion to Serie A, and he became the heartbeat of the side, known for his mohawk, his runs from midfield and his loyalty.
With Napoli he won two Coppa Italia titles and the Supercoppa Italiana and twice finished second in Serie A. He is an eight-time Slovak Footballer of the Year.
About this estimate
Forbes Slovensko publishes its list of the richest Slovaks every October. For former athletes it says the estimate is based mainly on the net money they earned in their careers (for NHL players roughly half of their gross salary) plus conservative growth on those savings, and for those with companies, the value of their stakes.
The 2026 list, reported by SME Sportnet on October 8, 2026, included the same four former athletes as in 2025: Marián Hossa, Zdeno Chára, Marián Gáborík and Marek Hamšík, together worth €440 million, up from €410 million. We show each figure as published, in euros, with a rough dollar conversion.
