Navjot Singh Sidhu was an attacking India opener known for hitting spinners for six. He played 51 Tests and 136 one-day internationals between 1983 and 1999, then became one of Indian television's most recognisable voices, first as a cricket commentator famous for his one-liners and later as a guest on comedy shows.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Amritsar for the BJP in 2004, joined the Congress in 2017 and served as a minister in Punjab, and became the state party president in 2021. In the affidavit for the 2022 Punjab election, which he lost in Amritsar East, he declared assets of about ₹44.7 crore and no liabilities.
How he made his money
Sidhu's wealth comes as much from television as from cricket. After retiring he spent two decades on screen, as a commentator and pundit and as a fixture of Hindi comedy television, which paid far more than the match fees of his playing days.
Because he declared no liabilities at all in 2022, his declared assets and his declared net worth are the same figure. Indian media reported the total as ₹44.63 crore; the MyNeta transcription of the affidavit gives ₹44,65,18,381.
About this figure
Every candidate for an Indian election has to file a sworn affidavit (Form 26) listing everything he and his household own and owe. In his 2022 Punjab election affidavit, Navjot Singh Sidhu declared total assets of ₹44,65,18,381 and liabilities of nil. We subtract one from the other to get the declared net worth of about ₹44.7 crore, about $4.7 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate. The affidavit figures are transcribed by the Association for Democratic Reforms on MyNeta and were reported by national newspapers at the time.
Keep in mind what this number is. Assets in an affidavit are listed at the values the candidate states, and property is often entered well below what it would sell for today. It is an official declaration, not a journalist's estimate of his wealth, and it only covers what was owned on the day it was filed.
