Since the earliest online report (2013)
Compares the 2013 report with the 2025 report, using the same method for both. He took office in 1993. The House's online database has his electronic reports from 2013 on, so we can't show his wealth when he first took office. Changes can come from a spouse’s assets, market moves, property values, new debts or how filers choose bands, and the forms do not say which. We do not guess.

Where the money comes from
Main sources named in the disclosures and the reporting we cite. The forms don’t split the total into exact amounts, so we don’t show percentages.
Bennie Thompson reported household assets minus debts of $2.08M to $4.53M, a midpoint of about $3.3M, on his latest financial disclosure (2025 annual report, filed May 15, 2026).
Bennie Thompson has represented Mississippi's 2nd congressional district, which includes most of Jackson and much of the Mississippi Delta, since 1993. He has been the only Democrat in the state's congressional delegation since 2011 and its dean since 2018.
He chaired the House Homeland Security Committee from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023, the first Democrat and first African American to lead it, and is now its ranking member. In 2021 he was appointed chair of the House select committee that investigated the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
What his 2025 disclosure shows
The report he filed on May 15, 2026 covers 2025. It lists 37 assets with a value, adding up to $2.1 million to $4.5 million. The largest are Midland National Fixed Annuity ($500K–$1M); Nationwide Peak Fixed Indexed Annuity ($500K–$1M) and Prudential: FlexGuard Linked Annuity ($500K–$1M). Another three items are listed with no value or an undetermined value, such as a pension, so they are not counted.
The report lists no debts that we count, so the range of $2.1 million to $4.5 million comes from the assets alone, with a midpoint of about $3.3 million.
How the range has changed
Using the same method for every year, the midpoint of his disclosed range went from about $650,000 on his 2013 report to about $3.3 million on his 2025 report. The chart shows 13 reports from 2013 to 2025, each added up the same way, and nothing is filled in between them.
These are ranges built from the value bands on each form, not exact values. They move with market prices, property values, new or paid-off debts and the bands a filer picks, and the forms do not say which of these caused a change. Like every member of Congress, Thompson does not have to report a home he lives in, cars and personal belongings, or federal retirement savings such as the Thrift Savings Plan, so his real net worth could be higher than these forms show.
