How to read this: members of Congress report each asset and debt in a value band (for example, $1,001 to $15,000), not an exact amount. We add up the low ends and the high ends, then subtract debts the same way, to get the widest possible range. The midpoint is simply the middle of that range, not a measured value. The forms do not include a home the official lives in (unless it earns rent), cars and personal belongings, or federal retirement savings such as the Thrift Savings Plan, so true net worth can be higher. We also leave out mortgages on homes the report does not list as assets, because the homes themselves are not counted either.

The House's online database has his electronic reports from 2013 on, so we can't show his wealth when he first took office. Changes can come from a spouse’s assets, market moves, property values, new debts or how filers choose bands, and the forms do not say which. We do not guess.

Adam Smith reported household assets minus debts of $334K to $860K, a midpoint of about $597K, on his latest financial disclosure (2025 annual report, filed April 14, 2026).

Adam Smith has represented Washington's 9th congressional district since 1997 and is the dean of the state's House delegation. He chaired the House Armed Services Committee from 2019 through 2022 and is now its ranking member.

A graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, he briefly worked as a prosecutor and pro tem judge for Seattle. He was elected to the Washington State Senate in 1990 at age 25, then the youngest state senator in the country, and won his first congressional race in 1996.

What his 2025 disclosure shows

The report he filed on April 14, 2026 covers 2025. It lists 10 assets with a value, adding up to $334,000 to $860,000. The largest are Vanguard 500 Index Fund Adm. (joint, $100K–$250K); Baird Trust Company TTEE FBO/Inherited Beneficiary IRA/John Eldridge Deceased IRA/Sara Smith Beneficiary: Vanguard Federal Money Market Investment (spouse, $100K–$250K) and USAA Performance First Savings Account (joint, $50K–$100K). Another 19 items are listed with no value or an undetermined value, such as a pension, so they are not counted.

The report lists no debts that we count, so the range of $334,000 to $860,000 comes from the assets alone, with a midpoint of about $597,000. It also lists a mortgage on a home the report does not list as an asset. As on all our House profiles, we leave that debt out because the home's value is not counted either.

How the range has changed

Using the same method for every year, the midpoint of his disclosed range went from about $355,000 on his 2013 report to about $597,000 on his 2025 report. The highest midpoint was about $632,000, on the 2022 report. The lowest was about $280,000, in 2015. The chart shows 13 reports from 2013 to 2025, each added up the same way, and nothing is filled in between them.

These are ranges built from the value bands on each form, not exact values. They move with market prices, property values, new or paid-off debts and the bands a filer picks, and the forms do not say which of these caused a change. Like every member of Congress, Smith does not have to report a home he lives in, cars and personal belongings, or federal retirement savings such as the Thrift Savings Plan, so his real net worth could be higher than these forms show.
