Wladimir Klitschko is one of the most dominant heavyweight champions in boxing history. After winning Olympic super heavyweight gold for Ukraine in Atlanta in 1996, he turned professional and held a world title for most of the next two decades, including an unbeaten run from 2006 to 2015 in which he collected the IBF, WBO, WBA and IBO belts.
He lost his titles to Tyson Fury in 2015 and retired after a dramatic defeat to Anthony Joshua at Wembley in 2017. With his brother Vitali, also a former heavyweight champion and now mayor of Kyiv, he built a business around boxing promotion, events and property. Focus magazine put his own fortune at $106 million in 2020.
How he made his money
Klitschko's fights were among the biggest events on European television for a decade, filling football stadiums in Germany and selling broadcast rights across the continent. Purses from those fights, together with the brothers' own promotion company, Klitschko Management Group, are the core of his wealth.
He also invested in property. When Focus ranked him in 2020, the report attributed his fortune to hotels in Kyiv and sports events. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 he has been one of his country's most prominent voices abroad.
