Affidavit values are what the candidate states, often below market value, so this is an official declaration, not a market estimate. We show it as declared and have not adjusted it. Vijender Singh is the boxer who won India's first Olympic boxing medal, a middleweight bronze at Beijing in 2008, and followed it with a world championship bronze in 2009. The fame that followed made him one of India's best-known sportsmen beyond cricket, with endorsement deals and film appearances.

In 2015 he turned professional and won his first dozen fights, taking the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title. In 2019 he stood for the Congress in South Delhi in the Lok Sabha election, and in 2024 he joined the BJP. His 2019 affidavit declared assets of ₹12.15 crore and liabilities of ₹3.20 crore.

How he made his money

Vijender's money comes from his amateur medals, which brought government awards and sponsorship, and from his professional career, where he headlined fight nights in India. PTI reported from his affidavit that he showed an income of ₹45.58 lakh in 2017-18, down from ₹1.27 crore the year before.

PTI also reported that he listed a residential property in Bhiwani, Haryana, with a market value of about ₹75 lakh, and jewellery and valuables worth ₹5 lakh.

About this figure

Every candidate for an Indian election has to file a sworn affidavit (Form 26) listing everything he and his household own and owe. In his 2019 Lok Sabha affidavit, Vijender Singh declared total assets of ₹12,15,25,000 and liabilities of ₹3,19,67,000. We subtract one from the other to get the declared net worth of about ₹9 crore, about $0.9 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate. The affidavit figures are transcribed by the Association for Democratic Reforms on MyNeta and were reported by national newspapers at the time. PTI reported his own assets, without his wife's, as over ₹8.62 crore.

Keep in mind what this number is. Assets in an affidavit are listed at the values the candidate states, and property is often entered well below what it would sell for today. It is an official declaration, not a journalist's estimate of his wealth, and it only covers what was owned on the day it was filed.
