Yusuf Pathan is a big-hitting all-rounder from Baroda and the older brother of Irfan Pathan. He made his India debut in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup, won the first Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals in 2008, and was part of the squad that won the 2011 World Cup. He later won two more IPL titles with Kolkata Knight Riders and retired in 2021.
In 2024 the Trinamool Congress fielded him in Baharampur, West Bengal, where he beat Congress veteran Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to enter the Lok Sabha. His election affidavit declared assets of ₹45.63 crore and liabilities of ₹11.97 crore, a declared net worth of about ₹33.7 crore.
How he made his money
Pathan earned most of his money in the IPL, where his power hitting made him a valuable buy for Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad over more than a decade. In his affidavit he also described himself as a director of the Cricket Academy of Pathans and of a property company, Patio Homes, and as a partner in Aris Associates.
The Hindu's summary of the affidavit lists a total income of about ₹2.9 crore and liabilities of about ₹12 crore, which is why his declared net worth is well below his ₹45.6 crore in assets.
About this figure
Every candidate for an Indian election has to file a sworn affidavit (Form 26) listing everything he and his household own and owe. In his 2024 Lok Sabha affidavit, Yusuf Pathan declared total assets of ₹45,63,04,016 and liabilities of ₹11,96,70,558. We subtract one from the other to get the declared net worth of about ₹33.7 crore, about $3.5 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate. The affidavit figures are transcribed by the Association for Democratic Reforms on MyNeta and were reported by national newspapers at the time.
Keep in mind what this number is. Assets in an affidavit are listed at the values the candidate states, and property is often entered well below what it would sell for today. It is an official declaration, not a journalist's estimate of his wealth, and it only covers what was owned on the day it was filed.
