Wojciech Szczęsny is one of the best Polish goalkeepers of all time. The son of former Poland goalkeeper Maciej Szczęsny, he joined Arsenal's academy as a teenager, became the club's first choice, won two FA Cups and shared the 2013-14 Premier League Golden Glove. After two loan seasons at Roma he moved to Juventus in 2017, took over from Gianluigi Buffon and won three Serie A titles. He retired in 2024, then changed his mind weeks later to join Barcelona, where he won a domestic treble in his first season.
He won 84 caps for Poland and played at four European Championships and two World Cups. Wprost's 2025 list of the 40 richest Poles under 40 puts his fortune at PLN 172 million, 27th overall and the most of any athlete listed on his own. That is about $44 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Szczęsny's fortune comes from more than 15 years of contracts at big European clubs. He spent most of his career at Arsenal and Juventus, two of the best-paying clubs in England and Italy, before his surprise move to Barcelona, plus personal sponsorship deals.
Wprost does not publish a breakdown of its estimate, and it is an estimate of wealth, not of earnings.
Career at a glance
Szczęsny came through Legia Warsaw's youth system before Arsenal signed him in 2006. A loan at Brentford in 2009-10 prepared him for the first team, and he was Arsenal's No. 1 for several seasons.
At Juventus he won the Serie A Best Goalkeeper award and was nominated for the Yashin Trophy in 2019. He was part of Poland's squad when it co-hosted Euro 2012.
