Kimi Räikkönen, "the Iceman", is one of Formula 1's most popular champions. The Finn started his first Grand Prix in 2001 with barely any car racing experience, moved to McLaren and won the 2007 world title with Ferrari by one point. Over 19 seasons he won 21 races and made 349 starts, and in between he spent two years in the World Rally Championship. He retired from Formula 1 in 2021 and now runs Kawasaki's motocross team.
Räikkönen has lived in Switzerland for many years, and the Swiss business magazine Bilanz included him in its 2023 ranking of the 300 richest people in the country with CHF 175 million, 277th overall. That is about $212 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Räikkönen was one of the best-paid drivers of the 2000s, especially during his first spell at Ferrari, and he kept earning top salaries after his comeback with Lotus, Ferrari again and Alfa Romeo. Personal sponsorship added to that.
Bilanz notes he still enjoys the adrenaline of racing: in 2023 he made a one-off NASCAR start at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. He lives in Baar in the canton of Zug with his wife Minttu and their three children.
Career at a glance
Räikkönen grew up in Espoo, started karting at 10 and dominated the 2000 British Formula Renault championship before Sauber gave him a Formula 1 seat. At McLaren he finished runner-up in 2003 and 2005.
His 2007 title came in his first season at Ferrari. He finished his career with 21 wins and 103 podiums, both Finnish records, and later made one-off NASCAR Cup starts in 2022 and 2023.
