Marián Gáborík was one of the fastest and most dangerous scorers of his time. The Minnesota Wild made him their first-ever draft pick, third overall in 2000, and he scored the club's first regular-season goal and became its all-time leading scorer. He later starred for the New York Rangers, won the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings in 2014, and played more than 1,000 NHL games and three All-Star Games.
Forbes Slovensko's 2026 list of the richest Slovaks puts his fortune at €100 million, up from €90 million a year earlier. That is about $112 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Gáborík earned more than $100 million in gross salary over almost two decades in the NHL, Forbes Slovensko says. He started investing early: in 2005 he put some of his first NHL millions into building a hockey arena in his home town of Trenčín.
Property is a big part of his wealth, with homes in New York and Manhattan Beach, at Donovaly in the Slovak mountains and at Rogoznica on the Croatian coast.
Life after hockey
Since retiring Gáborík has stayed close to the game through the media. He co-hosts the podcast Boris a Brambor with former defenceman Boris Valábik and works as a TV hockey analyst.
He was the highest-drafted Slovak in NHL history until Juraj Slafkovský and Šimon Nemec went first and second in 2022.
About this estimate
Forbes Slovensko publishes its list of the richest Slovaks every October. For former athletes it says the estimate is based mainly on the net money they earned in their careers (for NHL players roughly half of their gross salary) plus conservative growth on those savings, and for those with companies, the value of their stakes.
The 2026 list, reported by SME Sportnet on October 8, 2026, included the same four former athletes as in 2025: Marián Hossa, Zdeno Chára, Marián Gáborík and Marek Hamšík, together worth €440 million, up from €410 million. We show each figure as published, in euros, with a rough dollar conversion.
