Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. He joined Benfica as a teenager, won the Portuguese treble there in 2014 and moved to Atlético Madrid that summer for €16 million, then the highest fee La Liga had seen for a goalkeeper. He has played more than 500 games for Atlético, won La Liga in 2021 and won the Zamora Trophy for the league's best goalkeeper a record six times.
He also captains Slovenia. Finance's 2025 list of the 100 richest Slovenians puts his fortune at €56.4 million, describing him as one of the best-paid goalkeepers in the world. That is about $63 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Oblak's wealth comes from a decade of top contracts at Atlético Madrid, where he has been among the best-paid players at the club and one of the best-paid goalkeepers anywhere, plus his earlier years at Benfica and personal sponsorship.
Finance counts what is left of those earnings after tax and costs such as agents, and it leaves out returns on savings, so the estimate is cautious.
Career at a glance
Oblak came through the youth ranks in Slovenia and went to Portugal at 17, spending several seasons on loan before becoming Benfica's first choice.
At Atlético under Diego Simeone he became the base of one of Europe's best defences, and he was nominated for the Ballon d'Or in 2017 and 2018. He played for Slovenia at Euro 2024.
About this estimate
Finance, Slovenia's business daily, and its magazine Finance Manager publish a list of the 100 richest Slovenians every November. The 2025 edition came out on November 19, 2025, and was widely reported by RTV SLO, Večer and 24ur. Four athletes made it: Luka Dončić, Goran Dragić, Jan Oblak and Anže Kopitar. The entry threshold was €44.4 million.
For athletes, Finance says it starts from gross career earnings and deducts taxes and estimated costs such as agents, and it does not count any returns on invested savings. That makes it a deliberately cautious estimate of net career earnings, not a full count of everything they own. We show the figure as published, in euros, with a rough dollar conversion. A new edition is due on November 19, 2026.
