Luka Dončić is one of the best basketball players in the world and Slovenia's biggest sports star. He made his debut for Real Madrid at 16, won the EuroLeague and its MVP award in 2018, and was drafted third overall that summer and traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He was Rookie of the Year, led the NBA in scoring in 2023-24 while taking Dallas to the Finals, and in February 2025 was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in one of the most surprising deals in NBA history.

Finance, the Slovenian business daily, puts him on its 2025 list of the 100 richest Slovenians with a cautious estimate of €126 million, up 20 percent in a year. That made him the first Slovenian athlete with more than €100 million, near the top quarter of the list. It is about $141 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate.

How he made his money

Almost all of Dončić's fortune comes from basketball. His NBA rookie contract was followed by a maximum contract with Dallas, and his move to the Lakers came with new deals and a bigger commercial profile in Los Angeles. On top of his salary he earns from endorsements.

Finance's estimate is built from those earnings after tax and costs. It does not try to value investments or count future salary, which is why it is lower than the headline contract numbers often quoted in the American press.

Career at a glance

Dončić grew up in Ljubljana, played youth basketball for Union Olimpija and moved to Real Madrid's academy as a teenager. He won Spanish league MVP and EuroLeague MVP before turning 20.

In the NBA he became known for his scoring, passing and triple-doubles, and he led Slovenia to its first EuroBasket title in 2017 as a teenager.

About this estimate

Finance, Slovenia's business daily, and its magazine Finance Manager publish a list of the 100 richest Slovenians every November. The 2025 edition came out on November 19, 2025, and was widely reported by RTV SLO, Večer and 24ur. Four athletes made it: Luka Dončić, Goran Dragić, Jan Oblak and Anže Kopitar. The entry threshold was €44.4 million.

For athletes, Finance says it starts from gross career earnings and deducts taxes and estimated costs such as agents, and it does not count any returns on invested savings. That makes it a deliberately cautious estimate of net career earnings, not a full count of everything they own. We show the figure as published, in euros, with a rough dollar conversion. A new edition is due on November 19, 2026.
