Erling Haaland is Norway's biggest sports star and one of the most feared strikers in the world. Born in Leeds while his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played there, he grew up in Bryne and moved from Molde to Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund before joining Manchester City in 2022. He scored a record 36 Premier League goals in his first season, won the treble, and in 2026 led Norway at the World Cup.

That is about $465 million at the October 23, 2026 exchange rate, and far ahead of any other Norwegian athlete.

How he made his money

Kapital estimates Haaland's yearly income at about NOK 800 million. Just under NOK 350 million comes from his Manchester City contract, which runs until 2034, and NOK 250 million from his Nike deal alone, with other sponsors, bonuses and social media on top.

Finansavisen's report quotes economic historian Ola Honningdal Grytten of the Norwegian School of Economics, who calls it a superstar economy: the very best players take a disproportionate share of the money. He says older Norwegian heroes such as Bjørn Dæhlie had to become good businessmen as well, while Haaland really only needs to score goals.
