Oscar Piastri, from Melbourne, reached Formula 1 after one of the strongest junior careers in recent memory, winning the Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles in back-to-back rookie seasons in 2020 and 2021. He made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2023, won his first Grand Prix in Hungary in 2024, and in 2025 won seven races and fought for the world championship.
The Financial Review Young Rich List 2025 estimated his wealth at A$122 million, making him one of 22 newcomers to the list, at No. 56, at the age of 24. That is about $86 million at the October 22, 2026 exchange rate.
How he made his money
Piastri's wealth comes from his McLaren contract and the bonuses that come with winning races. McLaren signed him in 2022 after a contract dispute with Alpine, and later extended his deal as he became a regular winner. When the list came out he was one point behind teammate Lando Norris in the 2025 title race, and SEN suggested his fortune would be even higher by the next list.
Endorsements are growing too as his profile rises, both in Australia and globally. He was in his third full season of Formula 1 when the list was published.
About this estimate
The figure on this page is the Financial Review's own estimate, published in Australian dollars. The full list sits behind the AFR's paywall, so we checked Piastri's figure and ranking in the media release from Nine, which publishes the AFR, and in reports by SEN and Nine.com.au. All give A$122 million and 56th place.
His fellow Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo ranked 35th at A$194 million. We show Piastri's figure exactly as published, with a rough US dollar conversion, and have not changed it ourselves.
The Young Rich List covers Australians aged 40 and under. In 2025 a fortune of at least A$44 million was needed to make it, up from A$38 million in 2024, and 13 current and former athletes qualified.
